When Is the Best Season to Get Married?

Every month of the year will host a wedding. Some people love to get married in the heat of the summer, while others want the romance of a winter event. But is there a “best seasons” to get married in. Here’s a look at the benefits and downsides of each season to help you decide.

Honestly, I can’t agree that there is a best season after getting this information together. I married at the end of the summer, but that was more because the date worked for the most important people. We had considered late spring!

Spring: A Time for Rebirth

Spring is about rebirth and renewal. It seems like the perfect time to get married, right? After all, this is the first stage of your life together as a married couple. Why not marry at a symbolic time?

The problem is most people now live together before they marry, unlike the past. They’ve already had a life together and some have kids. All they’re missing is the piece of paper that tells them and the world that they are legally married.

Spring is also a time of rain. They’re called April showers for a reason! The Easter celebrations also usually take place during this time, which could make setting a date in a church a little trickier. If you wanted to get away from religious celebrations and the bad weather, you could look at the end of May and into June for your spring wedding.

Summer: A Wedding By the Sea

Summer is a popular time for weddings because of the heat and good weather. Brides get to wear their strapless dresses, without worrying too much about the mud in the fields. They also get the dream, destination-style weddings.

But you don’t just need to get married in the summer for good weather. And you’re not guaranteed it either.

If you really want hot weather for your big day, you’d actually be best booking a destination wedding somewhere! There are cost implications and legal issues to jump through, but you’d be more likely to succeed with the amazing wedding.

Autumn/Fall: Cooler Nights and Romantic Cuddles

There’s not a more romantic time than the autumn (or fall if you’re from America/Canada). The nights get darker and the weather gets cooler. It’s a time for cuddles, hot chocolate, and log fires. Yes, winter has some of this too, but autumn also has the changing colours in the leaves.

Of course, you’re more likely to suffer from the wet weather in the UK. You may not have the venue that has the trees to capture the beauty of the season, too. That white wedding dress can end up covered in mud and your bridesmaids won’t be too impressed about walking over grass in heels that slip down into the mud.

Of course, this could be the perfect time to add a little personality into your wedding photos. If the kids have a mud fight, be sure to get your wedding photographer there to capture the memories. And don’t forget to join in! Your dress and suit will wash!

Winter: A Time for Magic

Winter is the time for magic. It’s a time for so many religious celebrations, one of which is a festival of lights. This alone brings its own romance to the season. You can set up a winter grotto for entertainment, capturing memories as the children look around in awe.

You can also use the New Year as a time of rebirth. It’s very similar to spring weddings. Of course, let’s not forget that this is a time for Valentine’s Day weddings too!

The downside to winter is the cold. Your guests won’t want to stand out in the cold waiting for photos. They won’t want to enjoy your outdoor archway wedding, because they won’t be ready for the elements thrown at them. Of course, they’ll like it a little better if you have hot chocolate and warm soup waiting for them when they get in!

It’s possible to get too Christmasy with a winter wedding. And you’ll have a lot of people assuming you’ll include something Christmasy, especially if you have a December wedding. Or they’ll assume you’ll include Valentine’s Day into your big day. Your anniversary can even be overlooked because of these two winter celebrations.
