How to Choose Your Wedding Invitation Wording
Choosing the perfect wedding invitation wording
is something that many brides and grooms struggle with. The question that many
have is whether they should opt for a formal approach or an informal one. This
all comes down to the type of wedding that you are having. There are no right
or wrong answers when it comes to wording on wedding invitations; it is a
personal choice and completely up to you.
The
History of Wedding Invitation Wording
Once upon a time, choosing the wording on a
wedding invitation was the easiest thing to do. The parents of the bride would
traditionally hand out the invitations. However, due to more divorces happening
and more couples opting to organise their own wedding, tradition is no longer
the norm and wedding invitation wording has changed dramatically.
The original wording was often:
“[Parents
of the Bride] request the honour of your presence at the wedding of their
daughter, [name of daughter] to [name of groom]…”
The parents of the bride organised and paid for
everything. However, wedding invitations may be sent out by both the parents of
the bride and the groom or just by the couple themselves. This depends on who
is paying for the wedding and whether you really want to opt for tradition or
do things your own way.
The
Important Information
Some information is required on any wedding
invitation. It does not matter how this information is included, as long as it
is. The first is the name of the people who are getting married. Guests need to
know who’s wedding they are being invited to and it is common for the names to
stand out. It is worth putting the full names on the invitations, especially if
first names are common.
The date and time of the wedding are also
required. Guests need to know when the wedding will be held and the time that
they need to be at the venue. The name of the venue, whether it is a church,
hotel, country home or small church hall also needs to be included on the
wedding invitations so that guests know the place. Opting for the full address
of the venue works out well so that guests can search for directions, unless
you are going to include a map.
It is important that the information is clear
in your wedding invitation wording, especially for the part of the event your
guests are invited to. Some guests will only be invited to the evening party
while others will be invited to the full day. Take the time to decide how to
make this clear on your wedding invitations before you confuse anybody.
