It is more about the experience that you have when getting a job as a wedding consultant. To do this, it is worth taking on voluntary roles and then working your way into paid jobs. You could also look at organising your friends’ or relatives’ weddings and ask them to give references. The experience will help you gain ideas, understand more about the wedding planning business and be able to talk about the various roles you will need to do with an employer.

Starting Your Own Business

There is the option of starting your own wedding consultant business instead of looking for wedding planner jobs. This will mean that you can work for yourself but there are risks. You will also need to have extra skills, including business qualifications, some legal knowledge and financial skills to help make your business successful.

Organisation is essential whether getting into wedding planning for yourself or to work with a company. You will need to be able to work with many clients at one time and contact different vendors. There is a schedule that you need to stick to, which means time-management is also important.

One of the best things that you can do is have a portfolio of various wedding planning duties that you have done. This could be for friends, family or even within a company on a voluntary basis. The more experience that you have, the better chance you have of getting a job as a wedding consultant.

I recently saw a thread on a forum about people spending tens of thousands of pounds on their wedding. There does seem to be a big move into spending a large amount on one day. To some that’s stupid but to others it’s their dream. How much should you spend on your wedding? Honestly, I believe it should be as cheap or as expensive as you’d like.
