Choosing the Perfect Wedding Venue

When planning your wedding, the wedding venue is often something that you need to decide on first. The problem is that you need to find somewhere that has your preferred date available. At the same time, you need somewhere that you are happy with and a wedding reception venue that will do everything – or as little – as you need doing.

Finding a Venue to Suit Your Needs

Do you just want a wedding venue for your evening reception or do you need somewhere for the whole event – ceremony included? This is the first question that you need to ask since you cannot get married just anywhere (in the UK). You can only marry in registered buildings, such as churches, register offices and some hotels, castles and stately homes.

If you just want somewhere to hold the reception, you will then need to ask yourselves about whether you need someone to supply the catering. You may choose to provide a buffet yourself, which can help to keep down the cost but will mean more hard work for you. The benefit of supplying the food yourself is that you can choose what you are having and not just opt for a menu that the venue serves.

Think About the Distance

If you opt for a wedding reception venue and have the ceremony elsewhere, take the time to think about the distance. Some people will drive to the venues while others will have to take taxis. You may find that you need to provide buses or shuttle services to make sure people can get from A to B if the distance is large.

The Amount of People

Take some time to consider the amount of people you will be inviting. Some people will opt for having a small event while others will want a larger event. Many wedding venues ask for you to confirm the numbers six weeks before the wedding, which will help you tally up your RSVP list but find out if they have a maximum that they can hold from the beginning.

Choosing the Entertainment

Some venues will already have entertainment available; they may have their own resident DJ or may work in conjunction with one. With the majority of venues, you will need to choose the entertainment. You will need to make sure that the type of entertainment you want is possible with the venue that you choose.

You will also need to look into whether the wedding reception venue can support that type of entertainment you want. Do they have a policy against live bands? Will you be able to have a photobooth? While your thoughts on entertainment may be a long way into the future, having some idea now will help to find somewhere without restrictions.

The Perfect Spot for Photographs

Some places are designed with lovely gardens. These are great for photos for the big day. However, now all wedding venues are able to offer this due to their location. Take some time to look around all venues and find out whether you have the perfect spot for photos or whether you will need to create somewhere for your memories.

There are many different places to go for wedding venues. Some people choose hotels while others need to stick to a smaller budget. Take the time to find something that suits your needs and has the day you want to get married available.
