Choosing the Best Man

Part of the choices that a man has to make on his wedding day is who the Best Man will be. For some people this is easy – a brother – but for others there are a number of factors to consider. It just requires some thinking and planning for who will help you get through probably the most nervous day of your life.

Picking a Person Who Has Been There for You

The first thing to think about is who has been there the most for you. Who has been there when you’ve been down? Who has helped you through breakups or problems with your wife-to-be? You may find that your brother is there on the list but you may also find that your best friend is instead. Choosing the Best Man should be about choosing a person that you can trust to help you get through the day and make it something worth remembering.

Choose Someone Responsible

The Best Man is often the person carrying the rings, unless you have a Ring Bearer. This means that the person needs to be responsible to make sure that the rings don’t go missing! He will also be there to help with organizing the last minute details and organize the Stag Night for you.

The One to Dance with the Maid of Honor

It is worth remembering that the Best Man and the Maid of Honor often have a dance. It is worth finding someone who is likely to get on with the Maid of Honor so sit down with your wife-to-be to go through all the options. You don’t need to opt for a dance between the Maid of Honor and the Best Man anymore so this may not be something that is at the top of the list when choosing the Best Man.

The Limelight is Not for Everyone

The Best Man’s speech is something that is done at all weddings so you need someone who is happy to be in the limelight. You may think about the speech when choosing someone, as you may have skeletons in your closet that you don’t quite want letting out in front of your family and friends. Of course, if there is someone who you want to be the Best Man but is not happy about the Best Man’s speech, one option is to ask him to write it and have someone else read it.

Choosing your Best Man is something that you should take time in doing – unless you already have a brother or best friend in mind. Don’t worry about hurting anyone’s feelings. This is your day and you should have someone there that you want to be there. If this means waiting until closer to the wedding day then take that time.
