Choosing the Perfect Wedding Dress for You

Looking perfect on their wedding day is the aim for all brides and part of this is due to the wedding dress. Many brides will dream about their wedding dress designs from a young age and have something specific that they want for their big day. My dream dress was one that was very similar to upper-class 16th century wear, which is exactly what I was able to get in the end. However, while searching for their dream dress, brides also need to find wedding dresses that suit their figure.

Finding Wedding Dresses to Suit You

In fact, your figure is the first thing that you should think about. You want to look good on your big day so finding something that will flatter your figure is important. When you shop around for your wedding dress, take your friends with you and ask them for their honest opinion. If you worry about them saying something you want to hear, ask the shop assistant; they will always give their honest opinion.

It is also important that you feel comfortable in your dress. This is likely something that you will wear the whole day so you need something that you can walk around in, dance in and sit in. If you are uncomfortable, it will show on your photographs.

Choosing a Colour

While white is the traditional colour for wedding dresses, that does not mean that you have to choose it. I opted for a white dress with some black detail and nearly opted for one with red or emerald green detail. It helped to create the 16th century style that I wanted.

The problem with white is that it makes pale people look paler. When you shop around, talk to the shop assistants as they are likely able to tell you whether you look washed out or whether the colour suits you. You may find that opting for pinks or ivory colours will work better for you.

Where Are You Marrying?

Long wedding dress designs are perfect for those having large church weddings or opting for an indoor venue. There is little worry about the tail of the dress being caught in the mud and getting dirty. However, if you are marrying outside, it is likely that a shorter style will suit your needs better. Of course, if you are marrying on a beach, you will need something that flows and matches the style.

It is also important to think about the time of year. Those marrying in the summer months will likely enjoy wearing short-sleeved or sleeveless wedding dresses. However, if you are marrying in the winter, you will need something to keep you warm while you are outside.

Matching to the Groom or Bridesmaids

You may decide that you want to match your dress to your partner’s outfit or to your bridesmaids. This is something I considered at one point when I struggled to find my dream wedding dress. I nearly opted for a dress with green detail at the back to match the emerald green bridesmaid dresses. I then looked into red detail when I decided to put my bridesmaids in different colours.

If you opt for a corset style dress or one with a tail, you could put that in the same colour as your bridemaids. There is also the option of having some detail across the top or bottom to match the dresses. However, it is not a necessity to match your bridesmaids as you will also need to think about the type of dress that you are wearing.

Take the time to look at all your options. Consider your figure and complexion when choosing a wedding dress. This will help you find something that is comfortable and makes you look your best on the big day.
