Having a wedding theme at a wedding is something that some couples enjoy while others shake their heads at the idea. If you are someone who wants a theme with your wedding, you may be thinking about your options. There are many wedding theme ideas around but you need to find something that suits your personality.

Opting for a Decade Theme

If you are marrying in an old castle or stately home, a decade theme to match your venue may be your best option. This is a great reason behind your choice in wedding theme if anyone asks you. If you have a brass band for entertainment, you may decide that a 1940s theme is something that you want to opt for.

There are a few considerations that you need to make when picking decade wedding theme ideas. First of all, you need to make sure that all parts of the wedding match your theme. This includes the food, the clothes and the entertainment. The last thing you want is modern day music with a 1500s wedding theme or to have 1920s clothing for a 1940s theme.

Cultural Wedding Themes

When there is a mix of cultures or when a culture is so important to the couple, having a cultural theme may be an option. We opted for a Scottish and Yorkshire theme due to our mix of heritages. Scottish, Welsh and Irish themes are extremely popular with UK weddings but Jamaican, Spanish and Japanese are on the rise.

Like decade wedding themes, you will also need to think about everything to match your theme. You will need to consider the type of food, the music and the outfits. We did not bother with making the theme the main part of our wedding and used it for the decorations, buttonholes and corsages and for the cake. We also included bagpipes and had all the grooms party in kilts or tartan. However, it is advisable to avoid bagpipes when you opt for a Japanese theme, apart from when mixing cultures.

Time of the Year Themes

There are some wedding theme ideas that match the time of the year. If you are marrying around Christmas time, a Winter Wonderland with Santa’s Grotto is an excellent idea. It offers a theme to match the time of year and offers entertainment for children. If you are marrying in the summer, you may choose to have a beach theme.

It can be difficult to build a wedding theme on the time of year as there may be a lot to do. A Winter Wonderland will take a lot of planning and could really stretch your budget. You will need to think about decorations, entertainment and smaller areas such as favours.

Something Personal to You

It is likely that you want something that means something to you when looking for wedding theme ideas. If you enjoy going to the beach, a beach theme may be perfect for you; you may even choose a destination wedding to make the most of it. You will need to talk to your partner and find things that will work for both of you.

Never worry about the opinions of others when choosing your wedding theme. This is your big day and you need to find something that will work for the two of you. Whatever you choose, you need to find a wedding theme that suits your personal tastes and then work out how to include that in your big day.

How Much Should You Spend on Your Wedding?

I recently saw a thread on a forum about people spending tens of thousands of pounds on their wedding. There does seem to be a big move into spending a large amount on one day.
