How to Make Your Own Wedding Invitations

Back to weddings again this week! Are you in the process of making wedding invitations for your guests and struggling with ideas? If you are planning a budget wedding, there are high chances that you don’t want to buy expensive wedding stationary or hire a professional. The good news is that you can make your wedding invites yourself and it is very hard to go wrong!

Do Photo Invitations

A popular option is to create photo wedding invitations. These can have just one photo so that people know who the happy couple is or can have numerous photos that share the full details. One example is to have a series of photos with a cardboard sign. One photo gives the names of the couple getting married, the next gives the date and time, the next gives the venue and the last gives RSVP details. It’s fun, quirky and extremely affordable for a budget wedding.

Have Quality Paper

If you are going to print your own wedding invitations, make sure you have quality paper. You may choose coloured card to match your wedding theme or have a simple pastel colour that is pleasing to the eye. You don’t have to spend a fortune on the card. We made our own Orders of Service and bought quality paper from Staples for less than £10!

Use an Invitation Website

There are thousands of websites offering you the chance to get them to make your wedding invitations for a small amount of money. We used Optimal Print for ours and I can highly recommend them – not a plug, just a genuine recommendation for a large company. We added a picture of the two of us and modified the wording to suit our needs and let the company do the rest. We had them within two days so they could be mailed out right away.

Using one of these websites is beneficial since you do not need to worry about getting the prints perfect. When I was printing out our Orders of Service, I was stressing the whole time to make sure the printer was printing everything straight and that the words showed up perfectly. I’m so glad that I didn’t do it for the invitations.

Arts and Crafts

If you have small children, this is a great way to get them involved in your wedding. Some card, paper, scissors and glue are all you need to make DIY wedding invitations by hand. This will get tiring if you have a lot of guests to invite so think about it before hand. You can print out pictures from the internet or draw them on your wedding invitations to make them unique.

Safety note: when using scissors, make sure that they are suitable for the children’s ages. If the children are young, you will need to cut everything out for them.

Making your own wedding invitations is a great way to add a personal touch and make sure you get what you want. There are many ways to do this, including printing through a website, making them on the computer or making them by hand.
